L.A. Subway Station

A dark subway that is normally crowded.

Kirai nervously clutches her black sketch book against her pale arms tightening her grip on it and decides to answer August's question. "'Was' as in he died...yeah..." Her tone of voice didn't change at all infact she showed no hint of emotion other than her usual cheerful demeanor. As they enter the Subway train off to the left on a bench she notices a bright red notebook, but paying no attention to it other than glancing. Kirai turns back to August. "So are you from Germany I noticed your accent as well?" August's eyebrow raised. "Well then... Not too upset about death are you, and yes I am German." He gave a small laugh. "Really, death doesn't bother me much either."

She smiles kindly. "Yes well...I've come to accept death as a part of life." She glaced around sighing and the bright red notebook catches her eye again. Without taking her eyes off it she continues to speak. "So, where are you headed?" "Im not really sure why im taking orders to go places from this guy...Infact I might as well head back to Tokyo." He sighed and crossed his arms. "Might we sit down?"

She moves quickly to sit down and rests her book bag on top of the red notebook. She doesnt quite know why she does it but decides to shrug it off. "Tokyo huh? I'm headed there myself to join the Tokyo learning Institute but I have to finish packing first. She glances at him and sees him not looking at her. She takes the red notebook from under her bag and slips it into the bookbag. He smiled abit and then looked at her. "So, the Institute huh? Aren't you a little young to go there? I mean dont you have to be atleast 18 no offence of course." He smiled sincerely

She looked at him and blinked. Her steel blue eyes widening with question. "How old do you think I am?" "You couldn't possibly be older than fifteen. You WHERE at a highschool." He smiled kindly. It was if a record had scratched. "Im seventeen. Im turning eighteen the day after tomorrow." Her face grew darker with emotion. "Oh! Im so sorry! I just assumed-" "No its fine." Her face shined brightly again. He suddenly blinked at her sudden mood swing.

Kirai looks bankly at the ground, then fumbles with her sketchbook.
"Um, Mr... Hart? Okay, this'll sound a bit strange, but may I draw you?"
She looks up at him, smiling, and gingerly opens her book, flipping past well-drawn sketches, and comming to a blank page. She smiles inwardly, stroking the page with obvious love and care.

August smiled. "Sure." He then posed slightly. "Go on." He smiled.

She smiles happily, pulling out a pencil from behind her ear. She pushes her glasses into place, peering down at her paper. She tilts her head, then reaches up to turn August's head, so he's looking forwards.
"Better.."
She begins to sketch, starting with his scarlet eyes.
"So, um.. Are you wearing contacts? For your eyes, I mean."

"N-No it's kind of hard to explain." He stretched abit and smirked when suddenly a woman in the subway train screamed. August stood up and ran to the scene of two men holding the train hostage.

She blinks, mindlessly follows him and sighs at the two men. One has a gun, the other a knife and both are pointed at the woman who screamed. Kirai frowns, looking up at August to see what he might do.

August had been listening to their conversation. The first man was named Kir Dana and was written to die bye gunshot from his partner and then the partner would kill himself. August placed his arm infront of Kirai as if to protect her. The scene then played out. A large black pistol was pointed at the lead man and was shot. Another loud bang was heard and the other man dropped dead. August smiled slightly.

Kirai simply frowned.
" 'tch. Pity."
She glared at the secondary man, who aimed to shoot himself. She blinked sudenly as someone seemed to whisper in her ear.
So -you're- the one who took it...
She looked around to see who had uttered the words into her mind. She scowled, seeing no one. She looked back up to see if it was August who was speaking, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. She touched his arm lightly, closing her eyes.
Yep. He's happy.. Almost seems.. triumphant.. huh.

August sat back down. He snickered a small bit and then relaxed.

Kirai joined him, sitting back down. She absent-mindedly reached into her bookbag and touched the scarlet red notebook she had found.
"Something making you happy, Mr. Hart..?"
She peered at him, her steel-blue eyes suddenly turning icy. She blinked, then withdrawing her hand from her bag, used it to touch her forehead. But as soon as her hand left the notebook, the cold feeling in her mind went away.
So. I wonder how you will use it, child of the human realm. Will you be my first pawn?
Kirai blinked again, frantically looking around. Usually she heard voices in her head, and was used to them, ignoring them easily. But the voice that kept whispering to her.. there was something different. Something... evil. She had never heard it before meeting August Hart, and it certainly wasn't his fault.. Or was it? It could be him, but then again, she would be able to tell if he was psycic, just like her.
*chuckle*
Kirai shuddered, trying to recall if she had upset any spirits recently, or, if possible, ever. She wondered if it was just a lonely spirit, or one seeking peace.. But why did it whisper? And why had it mentioned something about "picking it up"? She scowled, looking at her sketchbook, as if it had an answer. Her eyes widened.
That's it!!
The red notebook. She hadn't heard the voice before picking it up and it did feel a bit evil.. That, and the icy feeling in her mind just a moment before. It made sense! That had to be it!

"It's nothing really." August smiled slightly. "So, why are you transfering to Tokyo?" August had acted like nothing happened.

Kirai blinked back into reality.
"No. You were happy. In fact.."
She grabed his arm gently, closing her eyes.
"You still are."

He stared down at the girl who kept grabbing his arm. "Um....alright then." "What's this?" Judas floated over to the girl's Shinigami. "Why are you here?"

She blinked, reaching up to his chest, touching the exact pocket in which his death note resides. She didn't know what it was though.
"What's this..? It seems.. familiar somehow."
Shemaru glanced up at the other shinigami and snorted. "What buissness is it of yours? I'm here of my own accord."

Judas smirked. "I just didnt expect to see another shinigami thats all."
"!" August was alerted. "What are you doing?"

Shemaru rolled his hidden eyes and went back to staring at the man and the girl.
Kirai's hand recoiled, and she flinched at his sudden raised voice. She grew quiet.
"S.. Sorry.. I didn't mean to.. make you angry. I just.. I don't know. I'm sorry."
She frowned, cursing herself in her mind.
Oi.. Why did I just.. touch him? That was wierd. Even for me..
Shemaru snickered. "Seems like this one has The Sense. I wonder.."
Kirai stared blankly at her bookbag. She reached over and touched it again, then looked back at August. She touched the same pocket again with her other hand and closed her eyes. She suddenly recoiled and sighed.
I was.. right? They're the same. Evil. I must be cautious..
She glanced at him, then smiled slightly.
I can't let him know..

August smirked again. "Please, that book of mine is special I would rather you not touch it."

"A.. book you say..? What does it look like..?" She peered at the pocket, tilting her head.

"It's a black notebook." He simply turned his head tword her. Judas flapped his wings and tilted his head.

She tapped her chin.
"Black..? Hm."
She glanced back over at her bookbag and the corner of her mouth twitched. She then turned to Ausust.
"Have.. you ever seen another like it..?"
Shemaru's fox-like ears perked up. "What is she..?" He was now interested in the girl.

"No...why have you?!"
